In line with group strategy, Eramet Norway is committed to research and development (R&D) to ensure a sustainable future. The researchers in the development group in Trondheim are experts in on-site applied research.

Two important actors in our development activities are Eramet Research, the group’s research centre in Paris with 150 employees and metallurgy- and mining-related facilities, and Eramet Norway’s own development group in Trondheim comprising three researchers with access to the facilities and expertise of NTNU and SINTEF.

Supporting national and regional initiatives

Eramet Norway supports national and regional initiatives through the Norwegian Ferroalloy Producers Research Association (FFF) and extensive working relationships with NTNU, SINTEF, the Eyde Network, Teknova and Tel-Tek.

The development group works closely with the smelters to analyse and solve technical and production-related issues. This support function is based on an essential understanding of realistic innovation proposals. The group relies on a network of expert specialists from academia, research institutes, consulting firms and other industries.

The development group is a team of acknowledged experts in applied research who continuously pursue enhanced understanding and greater insight. The development group supports the processing plants at Kvinesdal, Sauda and Porsgrunn, and also contributes to innovation and knowledge dissemination within Eramet Norway.

Eramet Norway’s development group is a small team that relies on a strong network of technical experts, particularly in specialized fields outside the group’s main area of expertise. The group consults a large number of specialists. The group’s key research partners are:

  • Eramet Research in Paris

  • universities, particularly NTNU (the Norwegian University of Science and Technology)

Eramet Norway’s development group in Trondheim consists of three permanent researchers and up to three additional researchers who work on a project basis. Eramet’s researchers have expertise in the reduction of dust emissions, process control, raw material characterization, and refinement of manganese alloys. Advanced models are used in areas such as mass and heat balances, flow measurement (computational fluid dynamics) and statistics.
